| Title of Complaint | Parquet flooring nightmare |
| Date of Complaint | 26 November 2007 |
| Company | daries flooring |
| Complaint | As a home improver who has been maticulous in finishings, I was looking for a qualified parquet flooring specialist. I sourced my parquet flooring 15 years ago and was now ready to install it. The adhesive supplier, Zimbo trading, reccomended the Daries family, father, and 2 sons. Only Vincent responded and there my troubles started.
The quote was not the cheapest and I accepted it without quibbling. They arrived 1 hour late on the appointed day and began. I was called away and came back to find them making a mess. Too little glue and the parquet flooring lifting. I called Vincent who came within 2 hours and said I was worrying too much and it would be fine.
To cut a long story short, I fired him the next week after he had already re-glued 50% of the floor. I then introduced my family to the premises, had my wedding and after the festivities, proceeded to re-lay approx 60% of the blocks with my assistant. I subsequently used ZEST flooring who sanded and sealed the job very well.
I am using this form to attempt to get exposure for Vincent Daries. he did a very bad job, was un-repentant,
and just to add an even sour-er note, his staff stole from me and cut off a stove connection at the wall to get the old brass off it.
his telephone number is 0823783479 and he is based in southern suburbs cape town.
Zest admitted to repairing a few of his mess-ups.
On a positive note - Zest were excellent and I was very happy.

| Response on behalf of daries flooring | Herewith my response to the above:
On meeting Mr Steyn, he advised me that he purchased the blocks 15 years ago and I then told him that the blocks would now be very dry but that wouldn't have been the problem, the main problem was that the cement topping was not mixed properly (not done by my firm)and as a result was very porous. When we applied the adhesive and layed the block - it looked fine but about an hour later, the adhesive started to sink into the cement topping. We tried correctng this problem by adding more adhesive to the loose blocks. After the blocks were layed we then started sanding. As a result there were blocks that came loose from the vibration of the sanding machine. We then started laying those blocks and would have completed the laying of the loose blocks but was stopped by Mr Steyn who became extremely impatient. We would of successfully completed the job if we were given the time to do so.
On the subject of the stolen item, Mr Steyn called me about 4 days later and informed me about this which i then told him to call the cops and investigate which he then responded to by saying he doesn't deal with police. He informed me that he has 'nigerian' friends that sorts things out for him. The Bottom line being - I would of completed the job to his satisfaction if he had only just given me some more time. He was just very impatient. Vincent Daries |
